Short Description: A unique silver object reinterpreting the Ioannina filigree tradition through thick, curled wire and abstract form. Each piece is individually shaped by hand, expressing movement, geometry, and the evolution of silversmithing.
Curly is a creation series representing evolution rather than just tradition. It incorporates elements of the Ioannina filigree technique but does not replicate traditional designs like leaves or vines. Instead, Curly symbolises movement and change, crafted in silver.
Made in 2019 in Thessaloniki, Curly's structure consists of thick and strong silver, shaped through rolling and coiling processes. Each piece is unique, shaped by hand and heat.
Achilleas, the creator of Curly, is originally a potter and a self-taught goldsmith. He enjoys working with tools and handcrafting items, relying on manual techniques rather than machines in his workshop.
Curly was crafted in stages. First, the wire was bent into unique curves, then carefully coiled despite material challenges. It was oxidised to enhance its shadows and polished to catch the light, resulting in both rough and smooth qualities.
Curly does not require much maintenance—just a gentle wipe and to be kept dry. It might tarnish over time, but silver can always be restored. If one grows tired of Curly, it can be sold due to its precious nature or melted down and reused.
Curly is the result of an old technique transformed into something new and free.
